SouthState adds three experienced bankers to the SouthState|DuncanWilliams team

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – December 19, 2023 – SouthState|DuncanWilliams today announced the addition of three bankers with extensive knowledge and a combined five decades of experience in the field.

These bankers join the team of financial experts driven by client-focused relationships and research-backed strategy.

Rick Turnage – National Sales Manager of Debt Capital Markets, Denver Colorado – began his fixed-income career in 1992, covering depositories and other institutional portfolio managers. Since 2009, he has managed institutional fixed-income sales teams, servicing a broad array of clients. He collaborates closely with trading, strategy, underwriting and public finance to ensure that SouthState | Duncan Williams is providing competitive products and the quality attention clients deserve. Turnage holds a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in addition to FINRA Series 7, 24, 53, and 63 licenses.

Matt Dustin – Public Finance Banker, Houston, Texas – brings more than 13 years of experience in municipal underwriting and advisory banking activities. He managed municipal client relationships, negotiated underwritings, and conducted placement of non-rated high-yield debt for special district and healthcare financings. Dustin most recently served as director of public finance with The Baker Group LP and began his banking career at RBC Capital Markets. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Public Administration in finance from the BYU Marriott School of Business.

Brian Shiels – Public Finance Banker, Dallas, Texas – also joins SouthState|DuncanWilliams from The Baker Group. With 9 years of experience in public finance banking in addition to prior experience in municipal government, he spent much of his career negotiating municipal underwritings and fostering municipal relationships across Texas. An Armed Forces veteran, Shiels holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Shiels and Dustin will serve municipal issuers throughout the greater Texas region and operate out of the office at 2850 Shoreline Trail, Suite 302, Rockwall, Texas 75032.
